إن المصريين القدماء كانوا أول الموحدين فى العالم وإن بقية العالم أخذ الدين عنهم فأخذت الهند شعائرها واليونان عقائدها من مصر.. وقد كانت بداية هذا التوحيد فى عصر «أمنحتب» فى تلك الترنيمة المحفورة على لوحة بالمتحف البريطانى وهى صورة ابتهال ومناجاة للإله.. ونصها هو.. «أيها الصانع الذى صورت نفسك بنفسك وصنعت أعضاءك بيديك.. أيها الخالق الذى لم يخلقك أحد.. الوحيد المنقطع القرين فى صفاتك.. والراعى ذو القوة والبأس.. والصانع الخالد فى آثاره التى لا يحيط بها حصر»، ويصل هذا التوحيد إلى ذروة فى النقاء والتجريد على يد إخناتون، حيث وجدت أنهم كانوا ينادونه
وتعنى به طفلا.. وتسكن روعه فلا يبكى.. وتفتح فمه وتعلمه الكلام.. وتدبر له ما يحتاج إليه فى حياته.. وتعلم الفرخ كيف يثقب بيضته ويخرج.. وما أكثر مخلوقاتك.. يا واحد يا أحد ولا شبيه لك.. لقد خلقت الأرض حسبما تهوى.. خلقتك وحدك ولا شريك لك.. وخلقت ما عليها من إنسان وحيوان.. ودبرت لكل مخلوق حاجاته.. وقدرت له أيامه المعدودة.. وجعلت الناس أمما وقبائل ولغات متعددة.. وجعلت لهم الشتاء ليتعرفوا على بردك.. والصيف ليذوقوا حرارتك.. وصورتهم فى بطون أمهاتهم بالصور التى تشاء.. وأنزلت لهم الماء من السماء.. ليجرى أمواجا تتدافع وتروى حقولهم.. ما أعظم تدبيرك يا سيد الأبدية.. إنك فى قلبى.. وليس هناك من يعرفك.. غير ابنك الذى ولد من صلبك.. ملك مصر العليا والسفلى.. الذى يحيا فى الحق.. سيد الأرضين إخناتون».
